Alpehumle Prospect Overview

Norway's Aker BP is preparing to drill the Alpehumle prospect, one of its largest exploration targets for the year. Located in the Gjoa area, the prospect is estimated to contain between 10 million and 190 million barrels of oil equivalent. The well is situated in Block PL 1153 at a water depth of 255 meters and will be drilled using the Saipem-owned semi-submersible Scarabeo 8. Joint venture partners include Aker BP (40%), Inpex (30%), OKEA (20%), and Harbour Energy (10%).

Strategic Importance

Alpehumle is a key well for partner OKEA, as a successful discovery could be tied into the existing Gjoa infrastructure. Aker BP has 11 confirmed exploration targets on its 2023 list, including the successful Tonjer well in the Johan Sverdrup area, the Carmen appraisal well in the Troll/Fram area, and the Linga exploration well. Aker BP CEO Karl Johnny Hersvik emphasized that exploration is an integrated part of the business, reinforced by a broader focus on energy security, and that such work will help ensure the company's production base remains competitive beyond the current project cycle.
