Casing drift is the guaranteed pass-through diameter of a casing string. It is smaller than the nominal inside diameter because it accounts for manufacturing tolerance.
Why drift, not ID
Any string that has to run through the casing is checked against drift: if the outside diameter of the pump, motor or protector exceeds the drift, the assembly may not reach depth.
